02 / What
Three things:
mainstage, workshops, community.
Chinese-language mainstage work; craft workshops; the community that rehearses, watches, and shows up.
01 / Mainstagestage
Mainstage
Student-led mainstage work — onstage, backstage, design, and publicity.
02 / Workshopopen
Workshop
Training, readings, open stages, outings — the room stays warm between shows.
03 / Communitytogether
Community
Students, alumni, and anyone drawn to the stage — rehearsing, watching, and sharing the load together.
03 / Past
Where we came from:
one room, many people.
The empty classroom, the eighty borrowed chairs.
In May 2018, UW students who loved Chinese theatre started May Drama. Early on, workshops, outings, and open stages brought people together.
Rewind sold out in December 2018 as our founding show; the 2019 CTC Festival brought Refining Desire, Hi, Mom, Soul Speaking, and more, with Mr. Donkey that spring. Seasons kept going — from about 2022 through spring 2025 we mounted 11 formal productions (titles in our archive); in 2025, Goodbye Mr. Loser ran five performances in Seattle — plus radio and immersive work — and we’re still making theatre today.
A few milestones.

04 / Belief
What we believe —
simple things, taken seriously.
Theatre is one of the last places a crowd still holds its breath together.— What we believe in
We don't make plays — we use plays to say one thing, to whoever shows up.
